Bulleit Bourbon - The Whiskey Roundup

Bulleit Bourbon was my first real whiskey crush. Bulleit is super versatile, and with the six offerings they now offer, including ryes, it can meet your needs for any drink whether it be neat, rocks, or in a cocktail. So, it only made

sense to feature Bulleit in the Whiskey Roundup.

Bulleit Rye is my favorite rye out there. It's so smooth and drinkable. I have found myself wondering where the bottle went, so I have to be careful.

I was so damn excited to get my hands on a bottle of Bulleit 12 Year Rye when it came out. It did not last long it was so good. Bulleit keeps on surprising me with new offerings.

My favorite cocktail and Bulleit. When was the last time you had a Bulleit Old Fashioned? It's pretty amazing!

Whiskey and writing, especially Bulleit bourbon and writing. They seem to go together maybe better than coffee and writing. I have a full week of writing planned out, so I'll have to give it a try.

The BLT, A Summery Cocktail

Summer is here and it is getting hot outside. Hot enough to need a good summer cocktail. Last night, I tried out the BLT cocktail and it was definitely refreshing on a hot summer night outside on the patio, with the bourbon, lemon, and tonic water to cool you down. Today, I'm sharing the recipe with you, because I think you'll want to try it out!

The Recipe

The Tools
  • Cocktail Glass
  • Jigger
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife

The Ingredients
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • Tonic Water
  • Lemon
  • Ice

The Method

Fill a cocktail glass with ice. Then, using the small side of the jigger, add 2 oz of bourbon to your cocktail glass. For this recipe, I am using Bulleit Bourbon. Next, top off the glass with tonic water and give it a stir. Finally add your lemon wedge and give it a final stir.

It's that simple. 3 ingredients for a refreshing summer cocktail. If you want it to be a little bit more like a spiked lemonade, you could a some simple syrup, but it honestly doesn't need it. Some mint would go really well with this too.

Whiskey Roundup 12/29/19 to 01/04/20

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles! These are may favorites for this week!

I knew I liked Mark Twain for more than just his writing. What is your favorite whiskey to have "too much of?"

Colorado holds a special place in my heart. I spent a year there and would love to head back. Any new distillery is always one I want to try, especially one found in ski country!

This is a lucky man right here. It's always nice to be  showered with gifts, even more so when they are something you would get yourself!

Great way to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the new. I'm going to have to try that Crown Peach sometime, to see if I can wrap my head around it. I spy Bulleit in there too, one of my favorite bourbons!

With a name like Detroit Whiskey Factory, how could this place not be cool. I have a friend living outside of Detroit, maybe I'll have to make a trip up to see him!

Whiskey Roundup 07/07/19 to 07/13/19

The Whiskey Tapes Whiskey RoundupEvery Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles! These are may favorites for this week!

I think for any whiskey lover, this is a dream vacation!

I've heard of Uncle Nearest and read up on him a little. Seems he taught a few of the early, now household name distillers how to make whiskey. A fitting tribute that is long overdue.

I live in Texas. It's hot during the summer. We're happy when it's only high of 92 F for the day. A good fruity cocktail is just what we need to stay cool!

Bulleit was my first bourbon to really fall for, to help me decide that I'm a bourbon drinker. Their rye offering was the next. I have to say that the 12 year rye is like falling for it all over again!

Whiskey Roundup 03/23/19 to 03/30/19

Whiskey Roundup
Whiskey Roundup
It's been a little crazy around here lately. So crazy, that I haven't been able to update the blog like I would like to. But I'm back, with new content this week!

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles! These are may favorites for this week!

For anyone interested, whiskey is always a welcomed gift!
I had the privilege of tasting some Teeling Whiskey a few years ago in Austin, TX. I have to say, it's nice to see credit where credit is due. Congratulations to the folks at Teeling!

I've long been a fan of Bulleit whiskey, especially their rye offering. I'm very excited and have been checking the local liquor stores as often as time allows to hunt down a bottle. No luck yet.

I always like to read whiskey reviews and stories of whiskey distillery visits and tours.

People tend to think of whiskey coming from the USA, Scotland, or Ireland. But, there is a whole world of whiskey out there waiting to be explored!

Bulleit, My First Bourbon Crush

Bulleit Bourbon
Bulleit Bourbon
Like most American boys, my first whiskey experience was with Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. But then weekend in college, visiting my brother in Austin, TX, he introduced me to Bulleit Bourbon. Bulleit was different, Bulleit was good. Back in those days, it was primarily a mixer. Bourbon and ginger ale, a drink we dubbed "The Bonassin." My whiskey tastes have matured since those days, and I like my whiskey neat or on the rocks. The Bulleit family of whiskeys is still one of my favorites, and is always restocked on the shelf. It only seems fitting to feature Bulleit Bourbon as my first whiskey review.

About the Whiskey:

Bulleit Bourbon is bottled at 45% ABV Bourbon. It is distilled at the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY for the Diageo Company. The mash bill is noted for its high rye content, at almost 28% of the mash bill. It is barrel aged for at least 6 years.

Appearance:

Bulleit Bourbon is amber in color.

Nose:

Bulleit Bourbon has aromas of oak and sweet vanilla

Taste:

I really like the flavor profile of this bourbon. Bulleit Bourbon has sweet and vanilla flavors and notes of spice.

Overall:

On the finish, Bulleit Bourbon gives a big flavor splash of vanilla and some maple. The spice is elevated just before the finish, giving off a flavor of almost pepper!
