Whiskey Roundup - Cocktails

I love cocktails, like this one made with Johnnie Walker. This week, the Whiskey Roundup is all about cocktails! I decided to go a little outside of the whiskey box and include cocktails that aren't technically a whiskey cocktail.

I've been making a lot of Bloody Mary's lately. I typically will use a store bought mix, but I have wanted to try my hand at making my own for a while. This should at least give a jumping of point to get started with making a mix at home.

It's been a while since I had a good whiskey sour. Most sour mixes are crap, so making them at home or getting one at a bar is usually out of the question. Unless the bar takes the time to make their own mix, it's a non-starter. I don't know why I never thought of it being just a few simple ingredients.
This a different take on the whiskey sour, that honestly sounds amazing. I've always liked raspberry lemonade and adding whiskey to it sounds incredible! This would make a great summer afternoon sipper.
Sometimes you have to take a simple approach. The whiskey can get lost in a cocktail full of syrups and juices, unless you mix it right. This cocktail is just two simple ingredients.

The BLT, A Summery Cocktail

Summer is here and it is getting hot outside. Hot enough to need a good summer cocktail. Last night, I tried out the BLT cocktail and it was definitely refreshing on a hot summer night outside on the patio, with the bourbon, lemon, and tonic water to cool you down. Today, I'm sharing the recipe with you, because I think you'll want to try it out!

The Recipe

The Tools
  • Cocktail Glass
  • Jigger
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife

The Ingredients
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • Tonic Water
  • Lemon
  • Ice

The Method

Fill a cocktail glass with ice. Then, using the small side of the jigger, add 2 oz of bourbon to your cocktail glass. For this recipe, I am using Bulleit Bourbon. Next, top off the glass with tonic water and give it a stir. Finally add your lemon wedge and give it a final stir.

It's that simple. 3 ingredients for a refreshing summer cocktail. If you want it to be a little bit more like a spiked lemonade, you could a some simple syrup, but it honestly doesn't need it. Some mint would go really well with this too.

Whiskey Roundup 06/23/19 to 06/29/19

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles! These
The Whiskey Tapes Whiskey Roundupare my favorites for this week!

Well first of all, happiest of birthdays to Mike! This looks like a pretty classy way to celebrate!
I like the idea of aging whiskey in various barrel types. For instance, my favorite scotches are finished in sherry casks. No matter the barrel type, the whiskey picks up great flavor personalities from the container. I'm going to have to pickup this Basil Hayden's expression if I can get my hands on it.

I was a creative writing major in college. For anyone who understands the struggle of fighting through the bouts of writer's block, this bottle of whiskey would probably get you too!

The best type of whiskey bar is a well stocked whiskey bar, especially those whiskey bars where the staff is knowledgeable about the product they are serving. I see one or two I would like to try!

Whiskey Roundup 06/16/19 to 06/22/19

Whiskey Roundup

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles! These
are my favorites for this week!

As a child, I would always take things apart to see if I could put them back together and learn about the way things work. I still enjoy the finer details. So, to learn as much as I can about oak barrels, a key ingredient to whiskey, is fascinating!
I wrote about Roe and Co last week. It's great to see that a new distillery is open for the world to enjoy!

I have to echo the sentiments of the Bourbon Gents here. What's not to love about Woodford Reserve? That reminds me, my bar is missing a bottle of Woodford!

If you're only going to have one, then this is the way to do it! I'd do the same thing, but I'd probably sport a metal tumbler!

Is there anything more beautiful than seeing a well stocked whiskey bar?

Quitting soda does have it's benefits; think about all of the the sugar you could cut from your diet! I saw an article the other day that champagne can help prevent Alzheimer's, so surely there are some health benefits to whiskey too!
