Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond 100 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Like most, my first whiskey experience was Jack Daniels. It's cheap. It's American. It's classic. And maybe most importantly, it's readily available. Later, I would try Crown Royal, because that's what my dad drank. When I got to college, my roommates and I would buy Evan William's Black Label, because it was the cheapest thing we could get our hands on. Later, at the time having no idea what good whiskey is, I would find out how good it is, and what's more, I would find out about the Bottled-in-Bond white label, just a few dollars more. Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond has become a semi daily drinker for me. That is to say at least, that it always has a place on my shelf.

From the Bottle

Bottled-in-Bond status is earned only by meeting strict government standards, originally passed in 1897 to ensure quality and consistency. In accordance with these standards, this bourbon is 100 Proof, aged at least 4 years, and produced at a single distillery within a single distillation season.

About the Whiskey

  • Distillery: Old Evan Williams Distiller, Louisville Kentucky. It is interesting to note that there are two distilleries, noted on the bottle by KY-1 for Louisville and KY-31 for Bardstown. This bottle is from the Louisville Distillery.
  • Type: Single Distillery
  • Charcoal Filtered
  • Age: At least four years
  • 50% ABV / 100 Proof

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Evan Williams BIB is amber in color. The legs are quick on the glass and don't linger on the glass long at all.

Nose: On the nose, there are notes of oak, vanilla, and sweet caramel.

Taste: The whiskey is subtly sweet, with notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel, similar the notes on the the nose

Finish: The whiskey has a slow finish, though it is not buttery. It has a light and even mouthfeel. The oak hits you in the back of the mouth and gives way to an oak bomb with sweet vanilla notes.

Whiskey Roundup 01/05/20 to 01/11/20

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles!

These are may favorites for this week!

I have a cousin with a good stock of whiskey and was able to try Baker's at his house once. It is definitely easy to drink. And it is almost 5 O'clock!

Proof that good whiskey can be found anywhere!

I've only recently jumped on bandwagon of 100 proof, bottled in bond, inexpensive whiskies, something that I should have started doing a long time ago!

I need to get my hands on one. I'm not sure I can truly call myself a Maker's Mark Ambassador without trying everything that they have to offer.

Whiskey Roundup 12/22/19 to 12/28/19

Whiskey RoundupAs you may have guessed, last week was pretty busy with family visiting for the holidays. So, I decided to take the week off from the blog. This, week I'm back with a new Whiskey Roundup to start!

Every Saturday I go through Twitter with #whiskey and roundup my favorite whiskey articles!

I got this same bottle for my birthday. I had always heard of the virtues of Japanese whiskey, but had never gone searching for it. Let me say, that it lives up to the hype!

This might be the best news I've heard in a while. Whiskey sure is less filling than beer!

The Sexton has become my favorite Irish whiskey. He's right, the bottle is pretty damn cool. What's even cooler is that their master distiller is a woman in a veritable boys club.

I always like a good Old Fashioned. I had one in Brooklyn a few years ago that was maple infused. This time of year, the cranberry flavor would be great!

I'm not going to lie, I was just really impressed by this collection! There are quite of these bottles that I have, and quite a few more that I want to try!
I'm always intrigued by blind whiskey comparisons. I have never thought to do a side by side tasting of Bottled in Bond selections.

Lately, I don't think Irish Whiskey gets enough credit. There are some really good ones out there. I have had the privilege of trying Teeling once or twice and really enjoyed it. Credit where credit is due.

This whiskey lineup really impressed and got me thinking about what I'll be sipping on tonight!
